"Our children deserve a safe place to go to school with a quality curriculum. Our community can deliver that. A high school would have a positive effect on property values in our community. That's a win/win for everyone!"

| Dear Neighbor, Consultants' feasibility project has been finalized. We now have sufficient information to, as a community, evaluate alternatives and come to a decision about how we can establish our own school and lifelong learning center within our community, not if we should have one.
Why? We simply don't know of any community of our size (12,000-plus residents, with 3,400 of them under the age of 19) in the USA without a high school, and our community and its children deserve better.
Please, review the content of this newsletter (click on each link for expanded details) and contact us with any questions you may have.
Thank you, KBCHS Steering Group info@hs4kb.com

| Updated Feasibility Report
FNI delivered to the Village their updated report as requested by Council at their February 26 workshop. Highlights of the report:
- Ten reasons why this project is vital to the best interests of the Key Biscayne community - not just for certain children and their families.
- Youth and school demographics, based on factual data, estimates our youth population at 3,428 and 872 of them in high school age.
- Updated operating budget requires no subsidy from the Village (a premise of the advocacy group).
- Estimated multi-purpose facility's investment, estimated at $7M, is expected to be capitalized by the Village.
- Evidence of the impact of high quality schools on quality of life for the entire community and property values appreciation. A very conservative 5% appreciation would produce cash flows of $9.5M to completely offset facility's capitalization.

Communications campaign: New informational brochure and updated web site
In an effort to inform the entire community, we are re-energizing our communications campaign and reaching out to all community leaders, organizations, families and elected officials. Our aim is to ensure the community understands the severity of the issue we face and, jointly, devise a solution benefiting the great majority of residents - not just children and their families.
Take a look at our updated web site www.hs4kb.com and see our new brochure which will be distributed to the entire community within the next few days. Make sure you read some of the testimonials of support from community leaders displayed in the home page and also review:
- Q&A section, providing detailed responses to the most often asked questions including budget and location. Make sure you don't miss the property appreciation area. - Benefits page detailing how all segments of our community will benefit.
Let us please know if you'd like to see additional information posted in our web site. |
Why a municipal charter school?
A charter school for the children of our community provides us with the autonomy from a large and inefficient school district. It allows for community participation in the planning, design of the curriculum and school operations for the school to be worthy of Key Biscayne. And it also allows to be funded by bringing back to the community school tax dollars we sent across the bridge each year.
See a comparison of municipal charter schools vs. district schools here.
