Florida Charter Schools Funding

Charter schools receive funding from State and Federal resources and is based on Full Time Students allocation (or FTE) complemented with State and Federal grants.

Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Funding. This is the funding based on student population, grades and other variables. See the 2008 - 2009 FTE Instructions and calculation sheet with  instructions.

Planning, Design and Implementation Grants: Federal Funds: CFDA #84.282A – Title V, Part B, Subpart 1. See Florida DOE Grant Program. The general purpose of the Public Charter School Grant Program (PCSGP) is to:

• expand the number of high-quality charter schools available to students by providing financial assistance for the planning, program design, and initial implementation of charter schools;

• increase understanding of the charter school model; and

• evaluate the impact of charter schools, including their effect on students, student academic achievement, staff, and parents.

The grants are for:

  • Planning and Program Design: $25,000

  • First Year Implementation: 1 – 200 Students: $200,000.  201+ Students: $250,000.

  • Second Year Implementation: $50,000

Eligible applicants are charter schools that have applied to an authorized chartering authority to operate a charter school and have received approval from the chartering authority to open in the 2009-2010 school year or charter schools that opened in the 2008-2009 school year and have not previously received a project award under the PCSPG.

Capital Outlay Fund. Provides State funding for:

  • Purchase of real property;
  • Construction of school facilities;
  • Purchase, lease purchase, or lease of permanent or relocatable school facilities;
  • Purchase of vehicles to transport students to and from the charter school; and
  • Renovation, repair, and/or maintenance of school facilities that the charter school owns or is purchasing through a lease-purchase or long-term lease of 5 years or longer.

Although not providing for a guarantee, we could estimate approximately $300,000 for funding of our KBCHS.
