Charter High School and Lifelong Learning Center
Stakeholders Group

We are a group of parents, students and residents from the Village of Key Biscayne who advocate on behalf of children in our community for them to have the choice of attending a high-quality secondary public education within their community, while enhancing lifelong learning opportunities for residents of all ages.

Key Biscayne High School: A decades old community effort

Many parents have been pursuing for years the creation of a high school for the kids of Key Biscayne. As years went by, some of these parents either moved out of the Village or could not continue to dedicate the time and effort required to see results. As a school administrator within M-DCPS and close to our community stated: “I have seen many parents come and go over the years, and issues remaining unresolved as any major change requires to deal with a established and self-serving system. The system ultimately outlasts the parents.”

Understanding the challenges at hand, a small group of parents gathered on October 2007 and started building upon what other parents had been doing for many years. Since that time, these parents and community members have engaged the entire community to increase the awareness of the challenges our children and their families face by not having the choice of attending secondary education within their community, and in seeking support and possible solutions.  The efforts continue today, with the growing support of more than 700 families subscribed to the group.
